90s Baby Show celebrates the legacy of Boyz n the Hood

Black History Month and the 50th anniversary of hip-hop continue with our screening of Boyz n the Hood. The late director John Singleton was Oscar-nominated (at the mere age of 24) for this passionate and hard-hitting account of youth, friendship and early-1990s Los Angeles gang culture.

The movie propelled several cast members onto the A-list including Ice Cube, already established through the gangster rap group N.W.A., and Cuba Gooding Jr. (later to win an Oscar for Jerry Maguire.) Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett, then in the relatively early stages of their film careers, lend suitable gravitas.

What is it about Boyz n the Hood that continues to endure? The 90s Baby Show team returns to answer that very question, having already put Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing under the microscope.

Check out their breakdown in the following video as they examine everything from the acting to the storyline and the soundtrack.
