A Quiet Place: Part II has become the first pandemic movie release to surpass $100 million at the American box office. That's something worth shouting about (fortunately, there are no nasty aliens lurking with earshot to spoil the party).
For the record, the last movie to achieve this goal was Sonic the Hedgehog back in February 2020. Will the Sega icon end up losing the pole position that he's held for the last 15 months? It looks likely: Variety reports that A Quiet Place: Part II took 15 days to cross the $100 million threshold in the States and currently stands at $108 million there.
Add to that its reported international takings of $80 million, and the movie is already knocking on global grosses of $200 million. Not bad at all for a post-apocalyptic horror released in the midst of deeply challenging circumstances – it's clear vindication for the quality and immersiveness of John Krasinski's spooky sequel.
The film opened in the UK with £2.24m – ScreenDaily reports that this is up on the original film's UK opening of £1.99m in April 2018. The first A Quiet Place grossed more than $300 million worldwide against a modest $17 million budget. The sequel cost considerably more ($60 million) but it's already off to a very strong start. And with A Quiet Place: Part III on the way, we look forward to an expansion of the lore – firstly, however, we want these questions answered...
