New Unlimited screening: watch If Beale Street Could Talk tonight

Director Barry Jenkins was the toast of the 2017 Academy Awards when his luminously beautiful Moonlight swept to Best Picture victory. And we're delighted to announce the filmmaker's Oscar nominated new movie If Beale Street Could Talk screens in advance for Cineworld Unlimited members tonight.

This eagerly anticipated drama is adapted from James Baldwin's celebrated 1974 novel of racial identity and love in the face of adversity. Rising stars Stephan James and KiKi Layne play young Harlem couple Fonny and Tish, both of whom are about to welcome their first child into the world when Fonny is wrongly sent to jail on a rape charge.

Unfolding as an atmospheric mixture of romance and hard-hitting racial politics, the movie explores Tish's desperate attempts to get Fonny released from prison. In order to do so she needs her family to rally around her, including her loving and spirited mother Sharon played by a Golden Globe-winning (and Oscar-nominated) Regina King.

Critics have acclaimed Jenkins's new movie as another triumph: Indiewire describes the movie as "lush and entrancing" while Variety praises it as "a work of social realism elevated to poetic heights by the sheer beauty of its voice and the humanism of its spirit". Jenkins's sensitive adaption of Baldwin's novel has seen him rewarded with a BAFTA nomination, plus Oscar nods for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress (King).
