National Theatre At Home: introducing Twelfth Night

Have you heard about National Theatre At Home? It's the brilliant new way of streaming the best live productions into your own front room – entirely for free.

Every Thursday at 7PM UK time, they will be releasing one NT Live title on the National Theatre’s YouTube channel that can be watched for free, on-demand for seven days only.

It's exactly what we all need during this time of stringent, nationwide lockdowns. This week, we're introducing Shakespeare adaptation Twelfth Night, including all the details of where you can stream it.

What is the story of Twelfth Night?

Shakespeare's classic comedy of identity confusion, sexuality and romance gets a bold reworking from director Simon Godwin, acclaimed for NT Live productions such as Man and Superman.

Friday Night Dinner and Green Wing actor Tamsin Greig stars as Malvolia, putting a gender-led twist on the Bard's masterpiece. When shipwreck survivor Viola crosses paths with the overwrought households of Olivia and Orsino, housekeeper Malvolia finds herself caught at the centre of the escalating madness.

How was Twelfth Night received?

Greig was described as "brilliant" by The Evening Standard, with Time Out further lauding the production as "a delicious crowd pleaser".

How long is Twelfth Night available to stream for?

It is available to stream for one week from Thursday 23rd April.
