Spiral: Saw spin-off movie unleashes its first trailer

Dare you see Saw again? The legacy of James Wan's micro-budget serial killer thriller has resulted in a lengthy, gore-splattered franchise. And due for theatrical release this year: a brand new spin-off promising to unleash plenty more grisly games.

Spiral (credited as being from 'the book of Saw'), comes from series veteran Darren Lyn Bousman, who returns to direct. On scriptwriting duties are Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger who've devised a bloodthirsty blend of the old and the new. As the first trailer reveals, a certain infamous trap from Saw lore plays a prominent role.

Lethal Weapon 4's Chris Rock (also an executive producer), Pulp Fiction's Samuel L. Jackson and The Handmaid's Tale's Max Minghella play the three cops embroiled in a deadly new game of cat and mouse with a deranged psychopath.

The official synopsis is as follows: "A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game."

Here are some suitably twisted new posters from distributor Lionsgate UK.

Try not to get chills as the revved-up version of that main theme in the trailer – and keep your eyes peeled for Billy...

Spiral: from the Book of Saw is scheduled for theatrical release on the UK and Ireland on 17th May. Are you planning a reunion with the big screen by way of the Jigsaw killer? Let us know @Cineworld.
