The Batman: Robert Pattinson photographed on set in Liverpool

More glimpses of Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne have arrived online. That's because The Batman is currently filming in Liverpool, helmed by Matt Reeves and starring Pattinson in the title role as the Dark Knight.

Reeves' movie purports to take Wayne back to his detective origins in a story that shows us how Batman, erm, began. The architecture of the great Mersey city will hopefully lend grandiose atmosphere to the comic book epic – Pattinson was snapped in front of St George's Hall, having returned to production following a positive COVID test result. The various crew members could be seen masked and obiding to current safety guidelines.

We're liking the aesthetic and digging the emphasis on location shooting – no mean feat in the midst of a viral pandemic. Co-stars Zoe Kravitz (Catwoman) and Colin Farrell (The Penguin) were also spotted during the shooting of what appears to be a funeral scene. Pattinson's haircut, though – is a bit 2007 emo-Spider-Man?

The Batman co-stars Andy Serkis as Alfred, Paul Dano as The Riddler and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon. The first trailer premiered during the August DC FanDome (check it out again below) and the film, following pandemic-related delays, is due to hit us on 1st October 2021. Tweet us @Cineworld if you think Pattinson will redefine the role of the Caped Crusader.
