Tom Holland confirms start of Spider-Man 3 filming

Having just completed production on the Uncharted movie, Tom Holland is heading back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). That's because filming on Spider-Man 3 has started in Atlanta, USA, and there's Instagram evidence to prove it. Adhering to social distancing guidelines, Tom kindly posted selfies with fans who visited the set. What a guy.

Spider-Man 3 is Holland's third and final MCU outing. Homecoming and Far From Home director Jon Watts returns for a story that pairs Holland's Peter Parker/Spidey with Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Presumably the latter will step into the mentor role vacated by the late Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.)

Holland's third and final solo Spider-Man movie is a key piece in the MCU jigsaw. It's part of the MCU Phase Four slate of films, which encompasses Black Widow, Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness. Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the various movie release dates have been repeatedly shifted.

To that end, Spider-Man 3 has now been moved to 17th December 2021. It's set to continue where Far From Home left off – you'll remember that Spider-Man's real identity was cruelly leaked to the wider world. We already know that Jamie Foxx's Electro will be returning, despite not originating as an MCU character. However, rumours that the preceding live-action Spider-Men, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, will feature have been quashed.
