Twisted psychological thriller Escape Room screened in advance for Cineworld Unlimited members on Friday, and appeared to make everyone think twice before booking that immersive escape room experience.
When a group of strangers are grouped together to solve an apparently impossible puzzle, they underestimate what they're getting into. Before long, they're immersed in a series of deadly traps involving upside-down rooms giving way to bottomless pits and lots more.
So what did Unlimited audiences make of it? We'll start with this from Nadine.

Jordan says it takes the Saw formula but makes it somewhat more accessible, while leaving the door wide open for follow-ups.
It was essentially Saw for those less keen on gore and more keen on the game aspect, but the well-rounded characters and innovative rooms (upside down bar I’m looking at you) were fun to spend time with. Knew it’d bait sequels, but I’m kinda interested to see how the stakes raise

Lee Newman enjoyed the movie as an amalgamation of several, earlier hits.
Enjoyed it. It felt like a mix of #Saw #TheGame and #ThePurgeElectionYear. It was watchable and I managed to stay awake for the whole thing this time! Thanks @cineworld #Didsbury for a good evening. Great refurb!

Sam Crossley says that despite not being a horror fan, she was engrossed by the movie's inventive death-traps.
Not normally a fan of ‘horror’ as I don’t like being made to jump, but really enjoyed this, was a pleasant surprise! It might be weird that I now want to do an Escape Room though #EscapeRoom #CineworldUnlimited

On the other hand, there was some who found the movie a predictable experience, including Nicole.
It was a great concept but it fell flat. The characters had promise but weren’t very convincing so the deaths didn’t really pack a punch. The rooms themselves were top notch though.

And Marcus says that, for him, the movie perhaps didn't fully embrace its horrific potential.

Your final Unlimited screening of January gets underway tonight (28th Jan) in the form of If Beale Street Could Talk. Moonlight director Barry Jenkins helms this sumptuous, Oscar-nominated adaptation of James Baldwin's 1974 novel about a young black Harlem couple who are preparing to welcome their first child, only for the imminent arrival to be overshadowed by jail time on a false rape charge.
